日本では、今年も猛暑が続いており、一部では、気温40度を超えた地域もあります。そんな夏の暑さから逃れるために、栃木県の奥日光の中禅寺湖に行って参りました。中禅寺湖は、日本国内で最も高い標高1269mに位置しており、夏でも涼しいことで知られております。夏でもとても過ごしやすい気候であることから、禅寺湖周辺は、明治中期から昭和初期にかけて、欧米各国の大使館別荘が建設され、各国の外交官が避暑に訪れるリゾート地だったそうです。
中禅寺湖は、マス釣りの聖地としても知られています。私は、今回、釣りはしませんでしたが、ランチに頂鱒（いただきます）という品種のマスのお刺身をいただきました。頂鱒は、日光の水産業者が開発し、2018年2月に商標登録されたブランドニジマスだそうです(登録第5886724号)。淡水魚のお刺身を頂いたのは初めてでしたが、とても美味しかったです。サーモンに似たピンク色で、味もサーモンに似ていますが、サーモンよりも脂っこくなくあっさりとした味でした。魚の生臭さも全くなく、食べやすかったです。日光へ訪れた際には、頂鱒のお刺身を是非お試しください。

A scorching heat has been hitting Japan. Temperatures in some parts of Japan have reached 40 degrees this summer. I went to Lake Chuzenji this summer to get away from the heat. Lake Chuzenji is a scenic lake in Nikko National Park in the city of Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Located at an altitude of 1,269 meters, it is the highest natural lake in Japan. And during Japan's hot summers, the lake's high elevation (1269 meters above sea level) keeps the area cool and comfortable. Because of the comfortable climate, in the middle of the Meiji period and early Showa period, many European embassies built vacation houses around the lake to escape from the heat of summer.
Also, Lake Chuzenji is known as a mecca for trout fishing. Unfortunately, I didn’t go fishing this time, but I had trout sashimi for lunch which was very delicious. It was the first time I had freshwater fish sashimi. The trout that I ate was “Itadakimasu” which is a kind of rainbow trout developed by Nikko fisheries and registered as a trademark in February 2018 (Registration No. 5886724). The trout has a pink color, which is similar to salmon, as well as the taste. But it is less greasy and has a lighter taste than salmon. It was easy to eat because it didn’t smell fishy at all. When you have a chance visit Nikko, please try sashimi of “Itadakimasu”.

6月には新型コロナウイルスも落ち着き始め、日常が戻り始めたことを喜んでおりましたが、7月に入ってからあっという間に感染が拡大し、感染者数に一喜一憂する日々です。
今月はお中元でお贈りいただいたワインを所員でいただこうと納涼会が予定されていましたが、そちらも延期となりました。
今年は在宅勤務をしつつ、新型コロナウイルスがおさまるのを待ち、お家で過ごす夏にしたいと思います。
In Tokyo, the COVID-19 situation was gradually getting better in June.
The regulations have been loosened and it seems that our daily life has returned back to normal little by little.
However, Omicron variant has been spread again in July, and the number of infected people is now over 30,000.
This month, we are scheduling Noryo-Kai (kind of summer evening party) for enjoying wine from our clients, but it was postponed.
However, in such a situation, it is best for us to spend safe at home this summer.
We hope that the COVID-19 will settle down and we can interact with each other soon.
今月は、緊急事態宣言が解除されているタイミングでしたので、先月入所された仲間の歓迎会を行うことができました。今後は、このような機会が増えていくといいと思っております。
さて、今年は6月中に梅雨明け宣言が出され、東京の日中の気温は35℃を超える日が続いております。6月中にこれほど暑くなりますと、7月、8月の気温はさらに高くなるのでしょうか。皆様も体調にお気をつけてお過ごしください。
This month was the time when the state of emergency was lifted, so we were able to hold a welcome party for our colleague who joined in our office last month. We hope that such opportunities will increase in the future.
By the way, the end of the rainy season in Tokyo was declared in June this year, and though it was still June, the daytime temperatures in Tokyo exceed 35 °C every day. If it gets so hot in June, will the temperatures in July and August be even higher?

New Plant Variety Protection and Seed Act was put into effect on April 1, 2022.
This new law allows a Japanese patent attorney to provide new consulting services related to “Protection of New Varieties of Plants” and assist the filing services to foreign authorities.

先週、静岡からリモートワークをしておりましたが、あちらでは早咲きの桜が鮮やかに咲いています。仕事はいつも通りの事務作業でしたが、春の到来を肌で感じ、とても前向きな気持ちになりました。
そして、東京に戻りまして、事務所のカーペットの張り替えに着手致しました。色は以前と変わらずグレーですが、張り替えたところが明るく見えます。
今年もお花見は自粛となりそうです。代わりに皆で事務所をきれいにし、心地よい季節を迎えたいと思います。
In Shizuoka Prefecture, you can see the early blooming cherry blossoms!
I worked remotely from Shizuoka last week. I did office work there as usual, but the warmth of spring made me feel more positive.
And I started replacing carpet tiles in our office soon after I came back to Tokyo. The color is gray as before, but the corner where I finished replacing tiles looks brighter.
It seems that we should refrain from having a cherry blossom viewing party again this year. Instead, I am planning to make the office comfortable with my co-workers, and welcome this pleasant season.

早いもので、本年も残すところあと僅かとなりました。
東京では、コロナ患者が減少してきたので、日常の生活が徐々に戻りつつあります。
そして、事務所のある新橋・虎ノ門エリアでも至る所からクリスマスソングが聞こえてきて、街は、すっかりクリスマスムードです。
先日、お昼休みに、事務所近くの虎ノ門ヒルズビジネスタワーに立ち寄った際に、虎ノ門ヒルズのマスコットキャラクター“トラのもん”（某有名ネコ型ロボットの白い虎バージョン）が、サンタクロースの衣装に身を包んでいるのを発見しました！
ちなみに、気になって調べてみたところ、“トラのもん”は、“トラのもん”という文字と図形（トラのもんのイラスト）の結合商標として商標登録されております。私たちにとって身近なものでも、実は、知的財産権により保護されているものが多いので、調べてみると面白いです。

In Tokyo, the number of Covid infections is decreasing and as a result we are gradually returning to our normal lives and there is Christmas music playing all over the city.
The other day, I went to Toranomon Hills Business Tower near our office at lunch time and I found that “Toranomon”, which is the mascot of Toranomon Hills, has dressed up as Santa Claus!
By the way, “Toranomon” has been registered as a composite trademark which is the combination of the characters “トラのもん” and its figure. It is interesting to try to look it up, because there are actually a lot of things familiar to us which are protected by intellectual property rights.

東京では緊急事態宣言が解除されて一か月以上経ちましたが、幸運にも、東京では目立った感染者数の増加はなく、このまま収束してくれないかと願うばかりです。
11月になってから紅葉が有名な観光地では観光客が増えているようで、土日の高速道路は渋滞するようになってきたみたいです。我が家も、秋の雰囲気を味わおうと、知り合いの生け花の先生から頂いた招待状を持って生け花の展示会に行ってきました。この先生の流派は、海外にも進出しており、国内外で使用する生け花のコンセプト名等について、知的財産の分野から意見を求められることもあります（いつか、一緒にお仕事をしましょう）。写真を掲載できないのが残念ですが、展示会では、花と人工物とを融合させた素晴らしい作品が多く、家族で楽しませてもらいました。

It seems that the number of tourists is increasing in famous tourist spots for autumn leaves since November, and the highways on Saturdays and Sundays are becoming congested. In order to enjoy the autumn atmosphere, my family also went to the Ikebana (flower arrangement) exhibition with an invitation from an Ikebana master of my acquaintance. This master's school has expanded overseas and I am sometimes asked for opinions from the field of intellectual property regarding concept names of Ikebana used in Japan and overseas (I'm looking forward to working with the master someday). It's a pity that I can't post photos, but at the exhibition, there were many wonderful works that fused flowers and artifacts, and I enjoyed them with my family.

東京で緊急事態宣言やまん延防止等重点措置が解除されるのは約５ヶ月半ぶりで、振り返るとこの1年間はほとんど緊急事態宣言が発せられていたことに驚きです。
先日、外国部に新たに社員さんをお迎えしましたが、部署全員での顔合わせはリモート会議にて行われました。
新型コロナウイルスが落ち着き、全員で歓迎会ができる日を楽しみにしております。
感染者数は日に日に減ってきておりますが、当所では引き続き感染対策をしっかりと行っていきます。

In October, a State of emergency was lifted in Tokyo.
It is the first time in 5 and a half months that the State of emergency and a Semi-state of emergency COVID-19 measures have been lifted.
Looking back on this year, it was surprised that most of this year was under the State of emergency in Tokyo.
The other day, we welcomed a newcomer belonging to the international department.
The first meeting with her in the international department was held online.
We are looking forward to the day we can all hold a welcome party for her.
Although the number of infected people in Japan is decreasing day by day, we will continue to take proper measures against COVID-19.
